Touch the essence of Japanese living and transform your gratitude into a piece of art.
Would you like to turn the "arigatou (ARIGATOU)" you learned during your trip to Japan into your own unique piece of art? The stage is the folk house cafe "Kominka Mikan" located in Shingu Town, Fukuoka Prefecture. This is a renovated Japanese house built 120 years ago—a place where you can feel the warmth of wood and nostalgic charm. Gaze at the weathered pillars and beams, and the greenery beyond the windows as you experience a moment of touching the essence of Japanese living. First, you'll enjoy an onigiri set meal with your host, featuring ichigo-sansai (one soup, three side dishes). Ichigo-sansai is a traditional meal style cherished in Japan for centuries, combining rice, a soup, and three side dishes. Centered around onigiri, slowly savor the authentic tastes of a Japanese home kitchen. After the meal, you'll experience brush pen calligraphy art using a "brush pen" with fine, brush-like tips. The words you'll create are "arigatou (ARIGATOU)"—how gratitude is expressed in Japanese. Enjoy the characters as art as you complete your one-of-a-kind masterpiece. In Japan, there is a concept called "kotodama" (言霊)—the belief that words hold spiritual power. In this experience, "arigatou" is cherished as a word that sows seeds of happiness for yourself and those dear to you. Think of the people you met on your journey, your loved ones, and yourself as you paint with gratitude in your heart. Once complete, take a commemorative photo with your creation against a favorite spot in the folk house as your backdrop. Capture both the Japanese characters you drew with your own hands and the memories of the time spent here. A small-group experience for 1–3 people that lets you connect with Japanese food, language, and lifestyle. Guidance is provided in Japanese, but communication using translation apps is possible. The surrounding area features the trailhead to Mt. Tachibana, and you can also enjoy exploring this region known as a castle town. If you have extra time, combining a hike before or after the experience is highly recommended. (Hiking and exploration are not included in the experience program.)
