Experience the techniques of incense crafting passed down for a thousand years in the imperial court, guided by a Koushi (incense master).
Experience the art of Japanese traditional incense making. You will craft various forms of Japanese kōh including nioi-bukuro (fragrance sachets), neri-kō (kneaded incense), o-senkou (incense sticks), and zuikō (powder incense). Your guide is Tsuruko, a Koushi (incense master) and certified instructor at Takimonoya Karaku. Upon arrival at the venue, you will first learn about fragrance materials. Next, you will personally blend approximately 15 different aromatic ingredients to create your own kōh. Finally, your creation will be wrapped in traditional Japanese style for you to take home. This experience allows you to discover the Japanese harmony of scent, its history, and the seasons. It is a special moment to blend the fragrance traditions of Heian nobility with your own hands. Your incense, wrapped in traditional Japanese wrapping, will become a treasured memory of your journey.
