Walking through the Salt Town's Alleyways in Kimono: Tsuyazaki Sengen Photo Stroll

About this experience

Tsuyazaki Sengen (津屋崎千軒) is a merchant town that flourished during the Edo period through salt production. The name is said to derive from a thousand houses that once lined the streets, and narrow alleyways still preserve Meiji-era townhouses and Toyomura Sake Brewery, which holds an Important Cultural Property designation. The rope decorations at doorways are displayed year-round as prayers for the safety of fishing. With few passersby, the quiet alleyways are perfect for photography. Photographer Naoyuki Honda will walk with you through town and capture your photos. Don't worry if you're not used to posing—as you stand in front of latticed doors and stroll through alleyways, natural expressions will emerge in your photographs. The sea is nearby, and if you wish, we can move to the beach for additional shots. Kimono dressing is available as an optional service with dresser Asuka Iwaoka. The complete kimono set, including the obi and accessories, is yours to take home.
