On a rainy day, these can be enjoyed indoors. In Kamikawabata, by Kushida Shrine, one machiya townhouse offers a tea ceremony performed on chairs, a maiko makeover with your own hair styled, and the traditional performing arts of Hakata: dance, live shamisen and ozashiki games. If you would rather not go out at all, a kimono dresser comes to your hotel room, and the kimono is yours to keep. You can also make nigiri and maki in Nishi-Nakasu. Kintsugi Spa is seven minutes on foot from Hakata Station.
